Hello….

Whats peps experience of getting refunds on smart PAYG balances when switching away from ovo?

i.e. Time frame of getting leaving invoice and cash in your hand?

I’m transferring 10/2/25 as a new supplier has cheaper S/C even on payg. (Ofgem KWH rates apply)

thanks

Hi @Fuzzycat ,

If memory serves… The credit will most likely be wiped from the Meter(s) and refunded to you by cheque once OVO has calculated the final balance. This may take up to six weeks though.

Hey @Fuzzycat

Glad to see one of our volunteers has already stopped by with some really great advice, Blastoise186’s memory served perfectly well.

What happens when you leave OVO

1. If you’re switching energy supplier, you don’t need to tell us

Your new supplier will contact us directly and send your opening meter reading with them.

2. We’ll close your account

We’ll use the opening meter reading from your new supplier to calculate your final balance, prepare your final statement and close your account.

3. We’ll send your final statement within 6 weeks

We’ll email or post this to you. The statement will show:

  • your recent energy use

  • any money left to pay and how to pay it, or

  • any money we need to refund you (if so, we’ll post a cheque within 10 working days of your final statement)

Once you’ve left OVO, please throw any away top-up keys or cards.

You can view more about this on our handy article.

I hope this helps.

I’m a payg customer and I received my closing statement today which says my closing balance is in credit by £4000, does this mean I will be given a cheque for this much?

thanks

Hi @samanthawilkinson94 ,

Strictly speaking it’s normally impossible to have a £4,000 credit balance on Pay As You Go. Are you SURE you are/were using Prepayment Meters?

This is what the pdf says that was attached to my closing email

Hmm… I’ll need to run this past the Forum Moderators…

Please bear with me.

Thank you

Is the property empty?
I ask because £14.84 for 28 days looks like only the standing charge with no actual usage.

If it’s been empty only for the last month or so then the bill above doesn’t tell us much - ie. it doesn’t tell us where such a large credit on 20th Feb came from.

Hey @samanthawilkinson94

It’s probably best to check in on this with the Support Team, we don’t have access to accounts to check refund status’ etc or that all of the billing details are correct.

As Blastoise186 mentioned, it’s quite a large credit refund, I think checking with the Support Team will be the next best move.

Refunds from Pay as you Go accounts would typically be done by cheque, but as it’s so large it’d be good to check that detail with the team.

Let us know how you get on.

The property is not empty, however I was being charged an extortionate amount of money a month for me and my 2 children under 8 , I think I will just wait for the cheque to come through

Thanks guys

I have spoken to the support team it’s legit , thanks for your help guys

Thanks for popping back to let us know @samanthawilkinson94 🙂
